The original Pasquini Livia 90 was created in the mid 1990’s and has been in the high end category of espresso makers ever since.
The espresso coffee maker dates back to the late 1800’s, early 1900’s. An Italian business man, Luigi Bezzera, was contemplating how to brew coffee faster. This was an attempt to get his employees to spend less time on coffee breaks. He discovered that if he added pressure to the brewing process, the coffee was produced much faster. He also discovered that the end result was a much richer and tastier coffee. The term “espresso” means “fast” in Italian. Thus the modern day name “espresso.”
In 1901, Luigi Bezzera filed for a patent for his invention. The equipment at the time was huge compared to modern day espresso machines. A man by the name of Desiderio Pavoni purchased Bezzera’s patent in 1903. Pavoni had expertise in marketing and thus the espresso machine was on its way to acceptance in Italy.
It appears to have made its way to the US in 1927, when Pavoni’s company installed one in a New York restaurant. Over the years, demand for this rich flavored coffee has grown. As demand increased so did the quality of the machines.
In 1951, Ambrose Pasquini, an Italian immigrant to the US, imported an espresso machine for his personal use. He had come to the US in 1946 and greatly missed the strong rich flavor of the Italian espresso. Others started to show interest in Pasquini’s new type of coffee. He began importing more machines. He would upgrade them to a higher standard and sell them.
Eventually he was creating his own machines. The name Pasquini became synonymous with quality in the espresso coffee machine industry.
Today, the espresso is a common drink throughout the world. It is one of the mainstays of every coffee shop and high end restaurant. Given the acceptable markup for this rich tasting delight, businesses do financially well in providing it to their patrons.
Beyond that, people are now enjoying the drink at home. They therefore, avoid a high cost for their favorite cup of espresso. At the same time they are able to enjoy it in the comfort of their own home.
Today’s machine bears very little resemblance to the monstrosity that was the original espresso machine. The Pasquini Livia 90 sits elegantly on the kitchen counter. Encased in stainless steel, it is a stylish small appliance for the kitchen.
For purposes of describing the espresso process the term “espresso bean” is used. This is a bit of a misnomer because in fact, there is no espresso bean. The espresso bean is really the coffee bean. These beans are readily available in grocery stores and specialty shops. In the espresso process, the coffee beans are ground to a very fine level. This finely ground coffee is available in ground form or in easy to use packages. However, there is nothing like a freshly ground cup of espresso. Ask any connoisseur of this tasty drink.
You will find a Pasquini in many of the top rated restaurants around the world. As well, if you paid close attention, you would have seen a Pasquini in films such as Pretty Woman and You Got Mail. Also, in episodes of Friends, Frasier, and CSI.
